The Birth of a Work of Art
|
First, a perfect drawing of
the composition; then the first layers of paint; the reds, browns, ochre, the oranges and ambers. After successive layers of these warm bases which act as illuminating support, the artist progressively achieves the true colours, a palpable truth but a higher one; extreme precision without the rigidity of outlines. The most aggressive and warm bases give the objects their substance and atmosphere. The reds and browns give rise to a staggering sense of transparency. |
