Africa fascinated him. This work was completed in 18 months after numerous sketches made in Kenya, Tanzania and at the zoo in Vincennes.

Canada

The wide-open spaces, 1966/1978

The beginning of the Canadian era (1966). John Scrymgeour bought the painting “Humanum Est?” renamed “The Hunt” and donated it to the Calgary Petroleum Club. This Canadian patron of the arts invited the artist and his family to come to Canada for three months every summer for 12 years. About 35 pictures were painted in Alberta.

It should be noted that on the belt guide there are the painter’s initials “GGF” Gualfer-Gualtieri-Fernando. Gualfer was the pen name he used in his artistic beginnings: the first syllable of his surname followed by the first syllable of his Christian name..
